Additionally, they will follow you while doing things around and help you with anything they can. Theyre also children friendly, meaning that theyll socialize with your children at an early age along with other pets except birds that they take as their prey.

History
The Saint Usuge Spaniel dates back to the 16th century, and it almost became extinct before World War II ended. Right after World War II, a priest arrived at a Saone-et-Loire parish located in Bresse area of France. His main goal was getting an ideal hunting dog, whereby the locals told him that there was a breed called the Epagneul de Saint Usuge. The priest then checked its history and discovered that the dogs last reference was in 1936 at a nearby city.

He then started locating the breed from the show, whereby he visited various hunters in the nearby parishes to locate the unique breed. The priest ended up finding a female dog called Poupette with the required description. After a long search, he also got some male dogs that could reconstruct the initial breed. In 1962, another female breed that featured a small Munsterlander was found for an additional gene pool.

This breed had a very close resemblance to the Saint Usuge Spaniel. In the early 80s, the task of reconstructing the breed was given to the Serge Bey, who was a conservationist. The breeding program managed to produce more than 250 dogs in 33 years. A national breed club called the Club de IEpagnuel de Saint Usuge came into existence in 1990. Although the Saint Usuge Spaniel breed isnt completely recognized by the American Kennel Club, its among the breeds that are in the Clubs recovery process.
