Description

Tennessee Treeing Brindles are classified as hunting dogs and specialize in tracking prey that climb up trees.

Treeing Brindles are under the Foundation Stock Service cur category as designed by the AKC to keep track of new and unofficial dog breeds. They have a weight range of 30 to 45 lbs, height of 16 to 24 inches and can live up to 12 years.

Treeing Tennesse Brindles are characterized by their baying barks and ability to chase their quarry up trees. These dogs need a lot of exercise but can be easy-going at home.

TTBs are bred mostly for hunting and work purposes, and are valued for their excellent tree-hunting instincts.

The breed was introduced in the 60s when Earl Phillips made contact with Brindle Cur owners, to which an association was formed 7 years later. Brindle Cur owners began selective breeding to get the best size, color and treeing skills.

Treeing Tennessee Brindles are physically capable and sport a smooth brindle coat. As such, they dont require too much grooming other than a regular brushing.

The TTB is a healthy and sturdy breed, and are brave, loyal and intelligent. The coat colors are either black with brindle or brindle; sometimes, white markings can be found on the feet and chest. Though closely related with the Plott breed, TTBs are smaller, have shorter ears and sport a unique brindle color.

This breed has strong jaws and slightly broad muzzles, a proportionate body, muscular necks and a deep chest.

TTBs can either have amber or brown eyes, and a black nose. Its skull is broad and flat, and tapers as it reaches the muzzle. The same characteristic goes for the tail- thick and tapers at the end. Lastly, their gait is smooth and effortless.

Male and female varieties have the same trainability and demeanor. In terms of size and weight females tend to be smaller and lighter than their male counterparts. However, the difference is negligible and picking is a matter of personal preference.

Treeing Tennesse Brindles are among the best dog breeds when it comes to hunting.

The breed has a remarkable scenting ability and are known for their treeing skills. This means they can send up various kinds of game up a tree, then signal to their owners using powerful vocals.

These hunting dogs are agile, fast, intelligent and courageous, as well as companionable and well-mannered as well.

TTBs are the ideal pets for families who love spending time outdoors. The breed thrives in open spaces where they can roam around and explore to their hearts content. Its imperative for Tennessee Treeing Brindles to have adequate exercise and attention- they love to learn new things and are smart enough to be trained and handled.

Aside from hunting, its best to exercise TTBs with walks, wood hikes and canine sports. They can also do competitive sports such as agility and freestyle frisbee. A short obedience training is usually enough to teach them the basics.

The breeds high energy levels and drive make them first and foremost hunting dogs. Years of selective breeding has made them exhibit a high prey drive, which means they may not do well with small cats or furry pets.

TTBs are known for their great vocalization skills, which come into play when the quarry has been trapped. They can howl and bay even when at home, which means you will need to train them to be quiet using positive reinforcement.

Hunters will love the fact that Tennessee Treeing Brindles are a sturdy breed. Theyre relatively new, which means they dont have inheritable conditions.

The breeds short coat is short and easy to maintain. Give them a good brush once a week to remove dead hair, and only bathe when theyre very dirty or muddy.

Daily walks are a minimum when you decide to keep a TTB. The best forms of activity are hiking, treeing and hunting. The canines intelligent nature and high hunting drive require a lot of open space.

Supplement their high energy with a high protein diet. Beware of overfeeding though, as they can gain weight fast and develop obesity if youre not careful.

In winter season adequate shelter must be provided.
