If you generally dread holiday shopping and have a hard time picking out gifts for the gun dog guy or gal in your family who has everything, then you’re going to absolutely love this list. And if you’re at the receiving end of this holiday exchange, you’re going to find great value from these items, because just as you can never have too many gun dogs, you can never have enough gear and supplies for your gun dogs. The holidays are stressful enough so we hope this gift-giving guide will help you finish your shopping early and allow for more quality time with your family and four-legged friends this holiday season.

Bumpers & Dummies – Ok, maybe there is too much of a good thing, but we know you’ll agree that having these training tools in the right place at the right time does make a difference. If you’re planning to train a new pup next spring, you’ll want to train in a variety of settings and conditions to reinforce their retrieving ability. This can mean keeping a bumper in your blind bag or upland vest to throw a few retrieves when you’re in the middle of a slow hunt and you need to give pup a few fun bumpers. Maybe it’s just time to start the new year with a fresh set to replace the old, worn out ones, but we think bumpers and dummies make the perfect stocking stuffer.

Grooming – A wet, muddy dog is a happy dog, and our dogs seem to be the happiest when they are completely covered in dirt, burrs and other thicket adornments. A stiff wire brush to keep inside a strap vest can keep our dogs clean and comfortable in the field and a provide a quick tailgate touch-up before sending them back into the truck at the end of the hunt. For the days when you can’t stomach the stank, a gentle, specially formulated dog shampoo can freshen up your canine companion and may even keep you out of the doghouse at the same time.

Extra Accessories – From check cords and flat collars to leashes, whistles, and water bottles, having a few spares never hurt anyone, and may come in quite handy. Keeping a spare collar and leash in your truck or strap vest can prove valuable in the rare event you need to secure or restrain your dog in the field due to an injury or altercation with wildlife or another dog, or you have to quickly remove your dog’s foot from a closed trap. A pocketknife or multi-tool is something all gun dog owners should never found be without in an emergency and any other item on this list is worth its weight in gold if we are ever caught without.

Books, Magazines, and DVDs – Print and digital media provide the perfect remedy for the long months in between the last day of the season and next year’s opening day and otherwise offer a continual feed to satisfy every gun dog owner’s appetite for content. Give the gift of a magazine subscription to keep your gun dog owner current on industry news and evolving training trends. Literary classics will captivate even the most reluctant book reader and training books and DVD’s still offer a great method of delivering important how-to’s, fundamental drills and tried-and-true training strategies. We never claim to have it all figured out and there must be a few empty spaces on the nightstand for one more hunting magazine or book.

Photo Products – We love our gun dogs — our kids and spouses will claim more than them — but we are proud and love to show off our dogs off every chance we get. Photo products such as mugs, ornaments, coasters, pillows, magnets and even socks, are sure to be a holiday hit with the gun dog owner in your family, offering a custom and creative gift with a chuckle and some charm.
Gift Cards – If you’ve come to the end of our list and you still can’t decide what to gift or believe the gun dog owner in your family truly does have it all, you can be sure to make them smile with a gift card to their favorite gun dog gear supplier, retailer, or favorite company or brand. The fantastic plastic is sure to save the day this holiday season.
