Welcome to Bravo Whiskey Shorthairs! We are Dave and Denise Penn. We own and operate a small farm in southern Missouri. Our stud and dams are our pets, they are loved and well cared for. We train our dogs for basic commands, and we also train them to bird hunt upland birds here in Missouri, Kansas and South Dakota. We wanted to become breeders of German Shorthair Pointers (GSPs) and share the dogs with others who have the same passion and love of dogs as we do. What started simply with Dave getting a GSP from a local breeder in Colorado in 2017 who was well known for breeding good lines of bird hunting dogs. Our interest in bird hunting turned us onto a talented gun dog trainer and eventually a wonderful group of bird hunting dog loving folks we met in Colorado and Kansas. We moved to southern Missouri that had some incredible wooded property to build our future farm. And thanks to some good friends we also sired our stud out which changed our interests from not only hunting GSPs but also breeding. We learned more about the breed and eventually raised 3 dam’s of our own. We now have a small group of outstanding dogs and Dave and I will have our hands full with puppy litters several times a year.

I am an occasional breeder of field bred english springer spaniels. My dogs are from solid field trial and hunting lines. I am a grouse hunter and field trialer. I have run hunt tests also and have dogs I have master hunter titled in the breed line. Pups are raised in my home and introduced to the field and retrieving. Preliminary house training is started. They will experience traveling in a kennel frequently. My preferred home for my pups is a hunting home or field trial/hunt test owners/family. Small family kennel and breeder focused on training and producing well balanced GSPs. We strive to train and produce healthy well balanced gsps that can perform whatever task they are given. I was in Law Enforcement for 10.5 years and 3 of those years work with our K-9 unit and worked and handled two different K-9s and helped train countless others. We love the GSP breed and feel they need a job to do our focus is to provide dogs for hunting and law enforcement type work. We also want the dog to be a great family pet. Our pups come well socialized parents will be OFA tested and will be well balanced based on the breeding. We do not just breed to breed.

The Deutsch Drahthaar is considered the most versatile hunting dog in the world. We breed and raise only VDD registered Drahthaars which means all our dogs are breed certified and all puppies are registered. Just what does this mean to someone looking for a hunting dog? Both parents have passed a minimum of 2 hunt tests. During these tests the dogs use of nose, search, pointing, cooperation, and ability to track are evaluated. They also go through many retrieving tests, and also judged on their desire to work. At any time dog shows aggression toward people or other dogs, or displays intimidation they are marked not breedable. They will have their hips, shoulders, elbows evaluated for any genetic defects. They will have passed the breed show to ensure their coat and confirmation is within the breed standard. We do all our training for hunting and breed testing, we have provided many hunters with their first drathaar and in many cases their very first hunting dog. We take great pleasure in helping them train and prepare their dog for the field. We do not require testing but we will help those who would like to test their dogs and appreciate their efforts.
