Transmitter
The transmitter works up to a one-mile range, with that distance being variable according to terrain. There are three choices for making corrections: static stimulation, tone, or vibration. A flip of the toggle switch means it's easy to control up to three dogs, and the wheel with individual detents makes adjustments to the seven different stim levels simple. Rechargeable lithium batteries last for up to 5 years, and the low battery light alerts trainers to a need for more juice. It takes two hours to fully charge, and the battery life is between 30 and 50 hours. The transmitter has a blaze orange finish which means it's easy to find in your kit bag. The SportDOG 1875 transmitter and receiver are made with DryTek® technology which makes them waterproof to 25 feet. While the depth isn't so important, knowing that both will withstand a heavy rain or water retrieve is; the 1875 is designed and built to withstand the elements.
Receiver
The blaze orange collar has an impact-resistant molded casing that is waterproof. Stim level adjustment features a low, medium and high setting which makes finding correct stim levels easy. Rechargeable lithium batters have shelf life similar to the transmitter, with 40-60 hours per charge. Additional receivers can be paired to the transmitter for running up to three dogs at a time. An internal antenna makes for up to a mile usage, and the collar weight is 4.8 ounces.
Beeper
Its motion sensitive beeper can be set to run/point tones. Some hunters prefer silence and only use the locate feature to determine their dog's position in thick cover or grass. To do so requires a push of the button on the side of the transmitter. The beeper can be turned on and off remotely.

Complexity is the enemy of execution, goes the adage, and that defines the simplicity of the SportDOG 1875. It's ideal for dogs working in the close-to-moderate range, and ideal for handlers who favor technological simplicity.

SportDOG: Gear the way youd design it
My dentist, Doc Biehn, was a waterfowler and I always got to check it out when I got my teeth cleaned as a kid. I remember one visit when he handed me a new, Marlin Super Goose he extracted from his closet. I'd never seen anything like the 10 gauge, bolt action shotgun that took a 3.5 inch shell and came with a two-shell clip and full-choked 34-inch barrel. That beast weighed a whopping 10.5 pounds, making it a virtual shoulder-cannon for waterfowlers. I could barely lift the heavy artillery let alone work the bolt without significant muzzle rock. My amazement turned to confusion, and in the end I couldn't see how that firearm would replace my side-by-side or pump in the blind. The Super Goose must have been designed by someone who didn't hunt geese.
Stocking Stuffers for Gun Dog Owners
If you generally dread holiday shopping and have a hard time picking out gifts for the gun dog guy or gal in your family who has everything, then you're going to absolutely love this list. And if you're at the receiving end of this holiday exchange, you're going to find great value from these items, because just as you can never have too many gun dogs, you can never have enough gear and supplies for your gun dogs. The holidays are stressful enough so we hope this gift-giving guide will help you finish your shopping early and allow for more quality time with your family and four-legged friends this holiday season.
Upland Hunting Vest Round-up
I was on Facebook the other night and saw a post asking about recommendations for an Upland Game Vest. There were so many different brands listed, that I thought it'd be a good idea to list some of them here on Gundog Central for everyone to see, with links to where you can purchase. While researching these Upland Game Vest, I was kind of surprised at how many different ones there were available. It would be impossible for me to list them all here, so I'll stick with the ones I know or might be interested in. I won't be offering any recommendations as to which one you should or shouldn't purchase, mainly because we all have different needs and hunt different types of birds. What's good for someone hunting Quail, might not work as well for someone hunting Pheasant. You might like to travel light, where someone else might want to carry more gear. An older person will have different preferences than a younger person and people in the south would have different needs than someone hunting up north. If you would like to leave any recommendations or feedback, maybe suggest some I missed, you may do some in the comments below.
