United Kennel Club, Inc. President Wayne Cavanaugh and National Shoot-to-Retrieve Association President Joe "Butch" Jackson signed an agreement this week to affiliate the two well respected organizations. As a result, UKC will now officially recognize NSTRA Champion titles on UKC Pedigrees and will issue Championship degrees to the owners of those dogs earning a title. Additionally, those dogs previously registered by NSTRA will now be officially registered with UKC. United Kennel Club's V.P. of Hunting Programs, Todd Kellam, had this to say, "This is one of those situations where everyone wins. We are so happy to be working with such an established and well-respected pointing dog program as NSTRA".

The National Shoot-to-Retrieve Association was founded in 1978 and has grown to include 30 NSTRA Regions and members in the lower 48 States and Canada. They were most currently not affiliated with a National Registry. "This is a huge step for us in recognizing both, the abilities of some very talented bird dogs, and, the efforts and dedication of a great group of gun dog enthusiasts", said NSTRA V.P. Scott Townsend.

The NSTRA format is a welcome addition to the growing pointing dog program at United Kennel Club. By aligning their organization with UKC, NSTRA joins the United Field Trialers Association (UFTA) and UKC's own Continental Field Trial Format as programs whose titles are recognized by United Kennel Club. The future looks bright for those who enjoy running pointing dogs!

Established in 1898, the United Kennel Club is the largest all-breed performance-dog registry in the world, registering dogs from all 50 states and 25 foreign countries. More than 60 percent of its 15,000 annually licensed events are tests of hunting ability, training and instinct. United Kennel Club prides itself on its family-oriented, friendly, educational events.
