Help with young GSP

I have a 11 month old male GSP. A friend of mine raised him and both parents are excellent bird dogs. He’s been helping me with him and he is doing great. He’s been holding point on birds in launchers since he was about 4 months old and we have killed several over him. Here’s my question. Lately he has been running right up to the launcher and halfway pointing right on top of it. Not all the time but enough to be frustrating. I only had time to put out two for him tonight before dark and he pointed about 20 yards out on one and blowed right up on top of the other. Any advice or tips would be greatly appreciated
