I have concrete, also one with horse mats and one with a wooden floor. All those are better than dirt to me. If I only had 1 or 2 dogs it probably would be okay, but it is harder to keep clean as well as problems with parasites and disinfecting from time to time. Horse mats and wood are not as unforgiving as the concrete though.

Ive had bird dogs for thirty years, twenty of which they were on concrete, never had a problem with feet or legs, dogs stayed cleaner, there coat looks healthier, less problems with fleas, ticks and parasites.Just keep concrete clean and disinfect periodically.

Really you must look a lots of things here. Some dogs i beleive need to be on stakes outs. Some need concreat depending on there skin. Not sure any real proof on the parasite thoughts. you get wip worms you simply in trouble. Exercise, vaccinate and protect your dog from flees and ticks.if you get your hands on your dog daily thats the key look at feet, ears, teeth everything.Really kennel time should be minimal if this is a working dog. Keep your brood bitches in concreat. I have seen large breeders use stand up kennels.

To clean concreat is best!

+1 with Horace Hubbard.

Concrete, IMO is the way to go. Like anything, cleanliness is key. Keep piles picked up and the surface washed down daily. Disinfect weekly at least.

I started out with Dirt kennels when I couldnt afford the really nice setup I have now. The obvious problem with dirt kennels is that they are dirty... Secondly they smell. Urine soaked ground reeks. Parasites living in the soil are virtually impossible to eliminate, and Dogs on dirt enevitably dig.

I have had both and there is simply no comparison! Concrete is the only way to go in my opinion. I couldnt even imagine what cleaning nine dirt kennels everyday would be like. Thank God....for the invention of concrete!!!!!

Concrete is the best Dogs will be healthier and stay cleaner. Cedar chips are best for bedding as the cedar oil/aroma will control fleas and ticks.

I have concrete as well and later added treated 2x6 on top in half of each cells. As stated, the wood is not as forgiving but does offer them relief from the concrete.

With dirt, you have the issues of digging under and the dogs getting out or when in heat other dogs digging under to get in. Then there is that which has already been said, the smell which I still face due to drainage issues. So concrete has my vote as well.

I have never seen the issue, but one of my clients did call complaining of a vet report of flat feet From Concrete, I offered an immediate exchange but they never showed.

I have been considering the horse mats as well but figure the dogs will claw them apart pretty quickly. As far as cedars, I just cut fresh cedar limbs and put them in there. The dogs get under the trees and have a ball anyway so I just brought part of the cedar tree to them.

no doubt a kennel made of sealed concrete is one of the most sanitary and durable options for kennel material. Sealed concrete can be washed down and sterilized with ease and can last decades with no need for repair. https://coppellconcretecontractors.com/
