Waterfowl Hunting Info

I would like to go west this year and do some hunting on one of the bigger rivers (Missouri). However, I am not familiar with this sort of hunting in another state. I also know that there are different rules and regulations depending on the state you hunt in. Any suggestions on how I go about getting this info? My concern is about trespassing on private water or property. Im not opposed to a guide but most of the ones I have talked with hunt fields. Myself, I love to hunt waterfowl over decoys an water.
