| My dog result of inbreedingI have a 5 year old German Wiredhair Pointer that is a great dog and have had plenty of compliments on his hunting ability that I wanted to know more about his pedigree. I went out to the NAVHDA website and found both his parents pedigrees in their database.
It appears that his mothers parents are also his fathers great grandparents. I wouldnt think that this is a good thing but I am not a breeder never have breed him and not sure if there will be any long term health issues. I wanted to see if I could get breeders opinion on this. |

| RE: My dog result of inbreedingThis may be a dead thread but in response and of my opinion (though I am no expert).
Inbreeding is a not necessarily a bad thing. It happens more often than you think or hear and not just with dogs. Many breeders will not mention the inbreeding relationship as the world is under the illusion that inbreeding is a bad thing and such will hurt their sells in certain instances where the customers is inexperienced and uneducated on the topic!
If I am not mistaken, What you are describing is an inner cross breeding system/practice within generations, it happens quite often in instances where the owner is attempting purification of the bloodline or as to reaffirm the bloodline. Theres more to it than that but such is a simple explanation that most will understand.
Though most are not aware of such process or think it to be some bad thing, all is well according to your report on the performance and health of the dog and you should be proud to mention such inbreeding as explained above.
The word itself is the problem as the dictatorship of our current society deems such to be some horrific act out of social dictation of moral standards and thus the interpretation of the word and act is frowned upon in public eye. Such is especially a false truth due to the bombardment of propaganda of the the PETA and other animal right groups whom attempt brainwashing Society with their info commercial and increase vortex of Adopt-A-Mutt/home programs and feel warm and fuzzy promotional BS. Such entities are working against Pure Blood owners and breeders and targeting them as as some evil in the public eye.....ooooops how did i go there?
For animals they do not define sex nor distinguish parent, sibling, grand child and etc.. as Off limits or in some act of SIN. Its a matter of nature, natural instinct and survival, as well as the need to procreate (without any rules).
Opposite and absent of society propaganda, dictatorship and influence if you can subscribe to and accept the fact in concept.
Accept the dog for what it is, an exceptional performing dog, and consider yourself lucky to have obtained it from someone who has a knowledge of inbreeding and does not subscribe to popular belief, social influences, and other propaganda. |

| RE: My dog result of inbreedingTo correct and/or contradict and assert my blabbering, inbreeding can have benefits or disastrous effects(harmonious and homogeneous);if it happens to often you increase your chances of bad results (so to speak), but done right and not so often, it can be beneficial to an extant.
I think the AKC has a rule against direct inbreeding (parent/sibling) and other.
(I am not expert on the topic so at best I can spell my name and hope I spelled it right). |
