Tick Repellent

by RON FREDENBURG on 07:11:10 AM 11/02/2016 - [ Send Private Message ]

Does anybody know of a good(and safe) tick repellent? Where I hunt with my German Wirehaired is heavily infested with ticks. Shes on K-9 Advantix however that isnt effective until the tick bites. I hate bringing her home with ticks in her coat, anyone use a good repellent?

Thanks

As for ticks specifically, try preventic collars.

In general every day use and as an addition:

Permethrin 10% is in my common arsenal but it is a insecticide and not a repellent. I say that but it has satisfactory results in use. If you spray your dog before you go out it will help a lot. The collar and this together should solve the problem or most of it.

Permethrin is a common ingredient in Happy Jack flea and tick dip, but I think it is less expensive if you get it in the noted Permethrin 10% concentrate at TSC or Coop. I dont know the strength the little bottle of Happy Jack (maybe 5%) but it does help.

I spray it on like a drunk nose blind sailor putting on cologne getting ready for a Friday night date and use it everywhere. I go through a bottle every year.

Try these links.
