Gundog Central turns 20!
The truth is, this site only made it this far because of you. Every breeder who ever posted a litter. Every hunter looking for their next hunting dog. Every conversation, every message, every repeat visit — you’re the reason Gundog Central is still standing after 20 years.
To show my gratitude, I’m having a customer appreciation sale — the first ever sale in Gundog Central history. All Account Upgrade prices are being rolled back to their original 2006 pricing for the month of April. No gimmicks. No complicated tiers. No April Fools jokes. Just a straightforward way to give back to the people who helped build this community.
If you’re interested in becoming a member or renewing your account, now is the best time to make it happen.
If you’d like to learn more about Gundog Central over the past 20 years, read on.
Twenty years ago, I launched Gundog Central with a simple idea: build a place where people like me could connect, share, and find quality dogs without all the noise. I was training a few English Pointers back then, but not enough to justify building out a website of my own. I figured there had to be other people like me who needed a better place to list their dogs — so I built Gundog Central not for myself, but for all of us.
Back then, I didn’t have a business plan, just a desire to create something I felt was missing. I had no idea what I was doing (I still don’t!), much less whether anyone would ever use it … and I sure didn’t think I’d still be doing it 20 years later!
As much as I’d like to take credit for lasting this long, the truth is I wouldn’t have made it a single year without people like you using the site all these years.
After 20 years, Gundog Central is starting to show its age. To quote Han Solo: “She may not look like much, but she’s got it where it counts, kid.”
In all seriousness, technology has changed. Expectations have changed. And while Gundog Central has held its ground, it’s time for it to evolve.
Behind the scenes, I’ve been building a new version of the site, something faster, cleaner, and more powerful, but still true to what made it work in the first place. My goal is to simplify aspects of the site, keep it familiar, and introduce modern features.
I won’t get into everything just yet, but as someone who also uses the site to sell dogs, I think you’re going to love what’s coming. I’m working hard to make sure it’s rock-solid before launch.
I’ve seen plenty of other “gun dog” sites come and go. It seems like someone starts a new one every few weeks, all the claiming to be the new #1 hunting dog site on the internet. I’m not sure how many #1 sites there can be!!
I’ve never claimed to be number one. I’ve never even claimed to be the best. What I do claim is that I work hard to get exposure for your ads.
This month alone, Gundog Central has had over 205,000 visitors and served more than 2,500,000 page views of dog ads. I don’t think any other hunting dog classified website can hold a candle to that kind of traffic.
Thanks to Gundog Central’s success, I’ve been able to acquire several other gun dog–focused websites and domains that were popular when I was first getting started. My long term goal is to bring each of them back to life:
Over the years, I’ve had several offers from people wanting to buy Gundog Central, and honestly, it’s been tempting to let it go. But this is something I built from the ground up. It’s my baby.
Nearly 100,000 lines of code and years of my life have gone into building and maintaining this site. I’m not sure anyone else would do it justice.
What keeps me going are the kind words and positive messages I’ve received over the years. They make all the late nights worth it.
Here are a few of my favorites:
• “I very much appreciate your service and hope it is productive for you!!!”
• “Thanks to you, my puppies have SOLD and will be vigorously hunting birds this next season!!”
• “You provide a GREAT service to all of us!!”
• “I love this company and would love to help advertise.”
• “Thanks, Jeff, for approval. Owner of stud told me about Gundog Central and the great response he had.”
• “Jeff, this is an amazing site, and we really appreciate the work you put in. Thanks.”
• “Thanks, Jeff, for helping to make one of the best sites for both buying and selling even better!”
• “We get more website hits due to our Gundog Central posts than almost any other.”
• “Thanks for all that you do to help us buy and sell some awesome dogs.”
• “Thanks to you and Gundog Central, I sold all my puppies within a few days.”
Hoping we can spend another 20 years together.

Looking for a Pointer?
Few breeds have earned the reputation of the Pointer. Known for their speed, style, and natural bird-finding ability, Pointers have been a favorite among upland hunters for generations. Whether you are chasing quail across southern plantations, hunting prairie birds in the Midwest, or simply looking for an athletic companion with strong sporting instincts, the Pointer remains one of the most respected bird dogs in the field.
A Broken Plate
After a long hiatus I have returned to a sport I loved for many years. As I turn my pups loose now and watch them sail across the south pasture, I reflect on the many turns in the road that placed me here.
Cadillac Farm by Tom Word
My great friend Joe Prince, farmer and every-day-in-season quail hunter of Stony Creek, Virginia, died from a tractor accident I predicted in 1997. His brother, Dr. John S. Prince of Emporia, died of old age at 97 last month, having practiced as an Internist to age 90. They were alike as two peas in a pod, smart, hard working, opinionated. Both had served in WWII, Joe as an enlisted radar operator aboard troop transports to Europe, John as a Navy officer aboard a cruiser.
